Do Some Shopping

When the rain starts to pour you can always indulge in some retail therapy. Shopping and exploring downtown are the perfect rainy day activities in the US Virgin Islands. Plus, the islands have some of the best duty free shopping in the Caribbean, and US residents can bring back much more purchases than other Caribbean destinations. Havensight Mall across from the cruise ship port in St. Thomas is a great place to find deals on a rainy day. Also, check out Vendors Plaza next to Fort Christian – an open air marketplace selling handbags, jewelry, t-shirts and more.

Visit the Virgin Islands National Park Visitor Center

It might be too rainy for a hike in the Virgin Islands National Park, but the visitor center offers great displays of coral, reef fishes and artifacts from the pre-Columbian Tainos people. You’ll also learn about how the sugarcane was harvested during the 1700s and 1800s. If you are interested in history, it’s a great place to escape from the rain while learning something about the island culture.

Chill Out in a Bar

Sometimes when it’s raining there’s nothing better than taking a deck of cards to your favorite US Virgin Islands bar and spending time tasting the best island drinks. Sip local beer, play games and chat with the locals and the other travelers. You might just make a few new friends!

Check Out an Art Gallery

Get your culture fix on a rainy day in the US Virgin Islands by visiting one of the local art galleries. You can see some beautiful creations from local artists, including paintings, drawings, sculptures and photography.
