The US Virgin Islands have all the ingredients you could wish for in a family vacation – sandy beaches, calm clear waters, great restaurants, kid-friendly resorts and plenty of things to do. You’ll have lots to do to keep the entire family busy, from hiking, boating, swimming and much more. Start with these family activities in the US Virgin Islands.
Tram to Paradise Point
The Tram to Paradise Point takes you on a pleasant ride up the mountains in St. Thomas, so you can admire the view from all angles. At the top of the mountains there is a restaurant where the family can stop for lunch while gazing out at the vistas. If you take the journey in the late afternoon and evening, there is live music, creating a fun and laid back island vibe for mom, dad, kids, you name it!
A great little marine park that is located next to Coki Beach on St. Thomas, Coral World is a fun way to spend a half day with the little ones. There are huge aquariums, a shark tank, sea turtles, sea lions and even an underwater “petting zoo” tank where your kids can touch starfish, lobster and stingrays. You can even opt to swim with the sea lions, sharks and turtles for an additional fee.
If your kids are old enough to ride bikes, this can be a perfect way to see as much of the island as possible. In fact, there are many places in St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix where you can rent a bike. One of the best things to do with your bike rental is to check out Water Island, which is small, easy to bike around with minimal hills. You can reach it on a ferry from St. Thomas.
Underwater Snorkel Trail
Get snorkeling gear for the whole family and head out to the Trunk Bay Underwater Snorkel Trail. Trunk Bay on St. John is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and underwater plaques direct visitors along the trail describing the various species of coral. There is a small entry fee to the beach but kids 16 and under are free.
