US Virgin Islands Biking
With perfect beach views, a nice cool breeze off the ocean and the best nature reserves in the Caribbean, US Virgin Islands biking is a must. Explore the landscape on bike during your US Virgin Islands vacation! Whether biking downtown or peddling in the lush terrain, there is no better way to see St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix.
St. Thomas Biking
A bike rental excursion is the only way to see historic downtown Charlotte Amalie on the island of St. Thomas. In fact, St. Thomas Adventure Excursions suggests taking leisurely bike rides along the waterfront of Charlotte Amalie Harbor. Ride through the historic French town until you find the tip of land that used to connect St. Thomas to Hassel Island. While biking through St. Thomas, you will also enjoy views of the 99 Steps, Fort Christian, 7 Arches Museum and the shopping district. This area of St. Thomas is almost entirely flat with a few small hills. Most riders will not find the excursion route difficult which makes it a great family activity.
Plus, US Virgin Islands biking is convenient for cruise ship travelers. If your cruise ship arrives at the West Indian Company (WICO) dock in Charlotte Amalie Harbor, St. Thomas Advnture Excursions is just a short 2 minute walk from the dock. Pick your bike up at Mojo’s Rum Shack right next to the cruise ship dock. Or if your cruise ship arrives at Crown Bay, find transportation to Port of Sale Mall (a 10 minute taxi ride).
Bikes are available for rent at Mojo’s Rum Shack along to waterfront to downtown Charlotte Amalie and French town. It is highly recommended that you stay off the main roads, as vacationers are generally not used to USVI driving customs. Note that it is popular biking etiquette to walk the bike across the street.
For easy access to great bike rentals and bike ride locations, consider staying at the bed in breakfast at Bunker Hill Hotel or the historic Blue Birds Castle in Charlotte Amalie, St. John.
St. Croix
St. Croix is known for having some of the best US Virgin Islands biking tours because of the knowledgeable guides who provide private lessons of the island’s history and ecology. Tour one of many guided bike tours of St. Croix’s west end, and enjoy the scenery of the island’s historic houses, dramatic shorelines and lush rain forest. Water Island is among the most popular guided bike tours in St. Croix.
Bike tours are available for both experienced and less-experienced bikers. Usually, bike rental, lunch and safety equipment are all included in US Virgin Island biking tours. Full- and half-day equipment rental are also available for those who want to explore the island on their own.
