Fishing in The Virgin Islands

Virgin Islands National Park waters are open to fishing with handheld rods and are allowed outside of swim areas. Deep-sea fishing is excellent for blue marlin as well as for dolphin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo, skipjack, and kingfish. The islands are legendary for boaters because of their sheltered anchorages, fantastic weather, and incomparable beauty. For world-class deep-sea fishing, charter boats are available in Red Hook, St. Thomas for incomparable fishing USVI.

 



Deep Sea Fishing Locations And Season:
Blue Marlin: location is 100-fathom edge; season is all year, best in July - October.
White Marlin: location is 100-fathom edge; season is all year, best in spring.
Sailfish: location is offshore in October - April, in season best in December and February.
Wahoo: location is offshore, in season all year, best in September - May.
Allison Tuna: location is offshore, in season all year.
Dolphin Fish: location is offshore, in season spring, fall, and winter, best in spring.
Kingfish: location is reef-banks, in season all year, best in spring.
Tarpon: location is inshore, in season all year, best in spring.


Virgin Islands Fishing

Conch season is October 1 - June 30. Conch must be 9 inches long and take is limited to two person per day. Fishing is not allowed in Trunk Bay and in buoy-designated swimming areas. Possession of spear guns within the park is prohibited.

Caribbean spiny lobster catch is limited to two per person per day and the carapace must be at least 3.5 inches. Whelk season is October 1 - March 30. Whelk must be larger than 2.5 inches and take is limited to one gallon per person per day.

Always remember that it is illegal to dump litter in the park waters or on land. Dispose of litter in designated receptacles throughout the park.
